I place responsibility for the degrading of morality in the USA precisely upon we who are Christians.  Why?  Because we are supposed to know better.

I had an interesting discussion about the recent change in the USA which upends a moral principle.  Behavior which is contrary to the natural order and the Law of God has now been made legal.  The line of "reasoning" the other person had is a familiar one.  We are all sinners, so we have no right to "judge" another sinner.

My rebuttal was simple.  We have murderers in the church.  They are expected to change and murder no more.  We have adulterers in the church.  They are expected to change and no longer commit adultery.  We have thieves in the church; they are expected to change and no longer steal.  Not by the might and power of the human spirit, but by the indwelling Holy Spirit Who Jesus died in order to give us [His Spirit].

The power of the Gospel is not simply forgiveness ... it is CHANGE.  Change from our feral nature to the image of Christ. The Message of the Gospel is not benefits, it is TRANSFORMATION through Jesus Christ.

2 Co 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Rom 6:4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.  5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.  6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

Rom 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.  6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.  7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot.  8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.  9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.  10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.  12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.  13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.  14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.  15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!"  16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,  17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.  18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.  19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.  20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.  2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

If you claim to be born again, but have not been changed in your thinking and behavior, it does not matter what doctrines you "believe".  It's all CRAP if you have resisted change by the Holy Spirit. THIS IS OUR DEFENSE against the immoral attacks upon God's Law .... those seeking to "approve" their unnatural behavior have no desire to change, so their "commentaries" from Scripture have no power ... they want to make the Scriptures say what they want them to say.

AA teaches alcoholics to change their behavior.  Violent people who come to Christ either change their behavior ... or they are not living by faith!  Thieves who come to Jesus change their attitude about other peoples' property and steal no more.  The POWER of the Gospel is the change of the human nature and behavior.  It is not simply about being forgiven and believing some different ideas.  No, Jesus' death and resurrection is the statement that God has made a way out of the slavery to sin.

Christians have become less like Jesus instead of more like Jesus .. their morality has reflected more and more of the standards of the immoral.  Christians have promoted a very false "tolerance" with the quack quote: "Judge not that you be not judged."  While we do not judge a person's salvation, we do judge their behavior, as Jesus taught us to:

Mat 3:10 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Mat 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. Mat 7:18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.

Mat 7:19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Jesus is not specifically talking about trees.  He is using them as an example that bad behavior does not flow from a transformed life.  And, He teaches His followers to identify good and bad behavior!   Jesus did not walk around condemning people, but when He was asked about sin, He identified it.

Quack preachers ... quit focusing upon forgiveness and start preaching the power of the life-changing Gospel ... or SHUT UP!

Quack Christians .. you are going to be held accountable for the Word of God that is available to you ... how many Bibles do you own?  One is enough.

We've lost the war.  It is best we start over and get down to the basics of the Gospel.

Adam was created, then Eve.  They sinned.  God continually sought to redeem human beings from their captivity to sin.  So, then, IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME, He sent His ONLY Begotten Son to die in our place and then raise up victorious over death that we might live in NEWNESS of life.  Not the "newness" of permissive sin.  But, in the newness of life which reflects Christ and is victorious over our old, sinful life.

God did NOT tell us to change the world politically or through positive affirmations.  He told us to proclaim Jesus and let our changed lives be a witness to Him.
